Interdisciplinary Arts Residency Program

How to Propose a Residency

The UW-Madison Arts Institute issues a call for residency proposals each fall for the following academic year. Faculty or staff representing the sponsoring unit submit the application in collaboration with one or more co-sponsoring departments. The Executive Committee formally reviews fall semester residency proposals in November, and spring semester residency proposals in March. If no residency proposal is accepted, the Executive Committee will continue to review applications on a rolling basis until the residency has been chosen.

Funding support: The Arts Institute funding covers the artist’s salary and benefits, a residency pre-planning visit, residency publicity, and course and public event budgets.

Staff support: The Arts Residency Manager assists sponsoring departments in planning the residency and is responsible for the residency promotion and marketing. A graduate project assistant also provides support throughout the residency.
